GITEGA May 31st (ABP) – The deputy chair of the national basketball federation, Mr. Claver Harushimana, warmly commended the initiative of Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye to build a basketball meeting international standards. He argued that the federation in question was declining to host international championships for lack of a suitable court.
Mr. Harushimana took action by granting a contribution of one million Burundian francs to that construction. This is only the beginning, he added, a substantial contribution will be made soon by the federation.
The provincial representative of the Gitega basketball federation promised a contribution of 120 bags of cement. These remarks were made on Saturday May 28, 2022, during community development work organized by the provincial authority of Gitega on the above-mentioned court infrastructure site. That work was attended by the inhabitants of the urban center of Gitega, dominated mainly by elements of the national defense and security forces.
Alternately and at the end of that work, the provincial governor and the communal administrator of Gitega all converged, in their interventions, on words of thanks addressed to the people who responded to the community development work.
The provincial governor took the opportunity to indicate that the estimate allocated to the site is one billion BIF. Thus, he asked the people from Gitega and elsewhere, to put together their hands in order to collect the financial means allowing to finalize the activities. Note that the work of the day consisted of the concreting of a stepped slab.
