GITEGA April 14th (ABP) – The Rector of the Polytechnic University of Gitega, (UPG) hosted a press conference on Tuesday April 12, 2022 to announce the new modules of 6-month certifying and paying training that this university will soon put in place in favor of officials and other people who attended the school. It was also an opportunity to let the community know that this university signed a partnership contract with the Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain during a working visit that this Rector made to that country from April 2 to 9, 2022.
In his presentation, the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Gitega, Dr. Silas Sayumwe, said that the University he heads always counts on improving the quality of education. It is for this reason that he indicated that soon, the UPG will open 14 certifying but paying training modules to help civil servants and other people who have attended the school to have a specialty in any field. This training will be provided on weekends, said Mr. Sayumwe. They will be focused on project management, accounting, gender awareness, management of microfinance institutions, development studies, negotiation techniques with donors, entrepreneurship and business creation, supply chain, office automation and internet, control and audit, civilian software. He said that there will also be language modules including Basic English and Kiswahili, because according to him, Burundi is a member of the EAC and most countries teach courses in English. It will also have a module in charge of human rights, peace and reconciliation. The cost of this training is not yet known, but it will be communicated soon after needs analysis, said Rector Sayumwe.
He called on the students of that university to take the lead in those different courses, particularly in the English module to continue to cultivate themselves at the linguistic level.
Dr. Sayumwe said that to enhance the quality of teaching at the research level at this university, he signed a partnership contract with the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The latter has promised the UPG to make exchanges in the options of engineering sciences and ICTs. The UPG also promised to provide Master’s level promoters to do the doctorates.
Note that this accelerated training will be provided for 6 months on weekends, adding that it can be done by spreading.
