CIBITOKE November 16th (ABP) – All the villages of the country must have access to drinking water and electricity services by the year 2027, according to the comments of various executives of the Ministry of Water, Energy and Mines, in a workshop organized on Friday November 12 by the AREEN (Regulatory Authority for the Drinking Water and Energy Sectors), in the capital of Cibitoke province (north-west of Burundi) for officials from Cibitoke and Bubanza provinces.

Presentations and discussions took place on the management and pricing of public drinking water and electricity services.

In their presentations and responses to questions from participants, plans to achieve their ministry’s objective were reported, including new catchments and extensions in the water sector, dams being built in different provinces, and innovations in pricing systems.

REGIDESO has a project to market portable water at an affordable price, according to Mr. Théogene Ndayizeye, head of the planning unit. The wooden pylons will be replaced by metal or concrete poles, while all conventional electricity meters will be replaced by the cash power system, he said.

To achieve that, everyone converged on asking for compliance with the law in that area and payment of invoices on time.
