Incorporation of officer candidates and opening of the 2020/2021 academic year at the Higher Institute of Police

BUBANZA June 14th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, proceeded, on Friday, June 11, 2021, to the opening of the academic year 2020/2021 and to the incorporation of officer candidates of the Higher Institute of Police (ISP), located at Mitakataka in Bubanza commune (north-west of Burundi), a check by ABP revealed.

In his speech, the President of the Republic of Burundi asked the police to always act as a good father because, he explains, the Burundians, especially the victims and alleged perpetrators of Burundi’s painful past, are currently in need of a good mediator. He invited them to double their vigilance so that the people and their property are protected in accordance with the law in order to transform Burundi into a paradise.

To the people, the President of the Republic asked for good collaboration with the police for flawless security, denouncing in real time whenever a cause of insecurity arises and avoiding popular justice.

President Ndayishimiye warned those who arrogate to themselves the right to sow insecurity through the division and police officers who do not properly fulfill their role, that they face sanctions according to the law. Faced with the obstacles to the proper conduct of studies at the Higher Institute of Police, the President of the Republic promised effective involvement to remedy them.

According to ISP director OPC1 Philbert Nkurunziza, the Institute has already trained 1,443 officers, including 1,365 men and 78 women, as well as 9 chaplains. Currently, he continued to say, the Institute has 240 students including 120 who have been incorporated, and who are learning Law, and Administration and Management. OPC1 Philbert Nkurunziza says that they have the project to open the section of Criminology but he indicates that the Institute lacks enough infrastructure and various materials as well as playgrounds.
