BURURI, May 14th (ABP) – The Bururi Red Cross branch is currently assisting 406 vulnerable people. Iradukunda Emmanuel, provincial president of the Bururi Red Cross – RUMONGE said that on Tuesday at the Kabuye stadium in Bururi commune, on the occasion of the celebration of the international day of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. That day was themed “doing humanity”.

The provincial president of the Red Cross Bururi-RUMONGE indicated that that day comes at a time when Burundi is facing natural disasters. The victims of those disasters are vulnerable people to be assisted as well as specific groups. He cites, among others, albinos, Batwa populations, people living with disabilities, older people, orphaned children who are heads of household, widows and widowers and people living with chronic illnesses.

During that week, the Burundi Red Cross has planned disaster prevention and management activities via the hillside risk and disaster reduction committees.

That includes raising community awareness of weather forecasts and anticipatory actions to be carried out following the information provided by IGEBU, tracing contours, cleaning gutters, sanitation of public places, certification model households and assistance for the vulnerable. Note that that day was celebrated on all the villages of the province of Bururi.
