CANKUZO, April 29th (ABP) – All employers in Cankuzo province (eastern Burundi) will now have one month to declare their employees to the National Social Security Institute (INSS). That recommendation was made on Thursday 25 April at an awareness-raising meeting on the importance of declaring and paying contributions for employees, organized in the provincial capital by the institute for all employers in the province, according to local sources.

Joselyne Bazompora, head of the INSS in Cankuzo, Ruyigi, Gitega and Karusi provinces, deplored the fact that most employers do not look after the welfare of their employees.

That deplorable situation can be explained by the fact that some employers in Cankuzo province do not dare to declare their employees or the salaries allocated to them, according to the labour and employment inspector for Cankuzo province, Jean Bosco Bambara.

In addition, Mr Bambara said that sometimes he is not well received in the field, and that even some employers hide the data he needs to consult.

He pointed out that such behaviour destabilizes the work of the government and is punishable by law.

The head of the INSS in the provinces of Cankuzo, Ruyigi, Gitega and Karusi pointed out that that is happening at a time when we are constantly raising awareness of the need to change behaviour.

For that reason, employers in Cankuzo province who have not yet done so have been given one month to contact the INSS to declare and start paying contributions for their employees. According to Mrs. Bazompora, offenders will be punished, with the possibility of their businesses being closed.
