The Torch of Peace has begun to light development work at the Rweru basic school in Giheta commune. The caravanners supported the paving work of the new classrooms.

In all the communes where the Torch of Peace passed, the caravanners of the torch of peace found, at the places where works of public interest were being carried out, a crowd of inhabitants who came to salute the torch of peace. The governor of the Gitega province M. Venant Manirambona indicated that that province has a multitude of projects underway aimed at its development. To that end, he praised the courage and devotion of the natives as well as the inhabitants of that province in the implementation of those projects. The governor of Gitega province gave the peace torch caravan 11 goats as part of encouraging them.

In his speech, the president of the caravanners association (Intwararumuri), Mr. Epipode Baranyikwa thanked the Gitega province for its encouragement and participation in development. He also called on the population to work in harmony in cooperatives and agricultural and livestock associations in order to increase production. He also asked them to do self-assessments every year in order to see their level of development. Mr Baranyikwa called on traders to get used to paying taxes. That will allow Burundi to achieve its vision of being an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060, he announced. Let us point out that by closing the activities linked to the torch of peace, of three days in that province, the vice-president of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza, in the company of members of the administration in Gitega province and the caravanners proceeded to the official inauguration of various works carried out in that province including the hotel Sunrise Resort located in the Musinzira district, the BNDE bank branch and an apartment extension to the Polyclinic University.
