GITEGA October 19th (ABP) – The Senators meeting in plenary session on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Gitega hemicycle (center of the country), under the aegis of the President of the Senate Mr. Emmanuel Sinzohagera, analyzed in second reading, on the proposal of the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi, a draft organic law amending Law No. 1/08 of March 17, 2005 on the code of organization and judicial jurisdiction.

The President of the standing committee responsible for institutional, legal issues and fundamental rights and freedoms, Mrs. Benoîte Nizigiyimana, reported that the re-examination of that bill adopted by Parliament intervenes to frame the Code of judicial organization and jurisdiction in a legal environment, specify the admissibility of the magistrate and what constitutes his independence.

That is why, she added, judicial organization and competences are an imperative necessity and also constitute, in any legal society, a pillar of development.

She also indicated that the interest of that second reading is therefore to situate the text in its legal environment and to determine the normative block of reference or contradiction, that is to say the texts with which that organic law must be combined.

Note that after analyzing the proposed amendments, the senators unanimously adopted that organic bill.
