MAKAMBA, October 10th (ABP) – The synergy of everyone is necessary to raise awareness among the people to adhere to the education program on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

The governor of Makamba (southern Burundi), Mrs. Françoise Ngozirazana, indicated said this last week, during a meeting of stakeholders in the matter to set up a listening framework to involve vulnerable groups in that program.

For family planning to be successful in the villages, it is necessary to include all categories of the people such as people living with disabilities, albinos, Batwa, religious people as well as other vulnerable groups.

The survey showed that several factors make family planning difficult, including men who do not respond favorably to the program, faith beliefs, rumors and the failure to take care of the side effects of adherents to family planning methods, etc.

According to the director of the provincial health office, Gérard Haziyo, to have good results, even remote corners will have to be reached through SRH education awareness sessions. Furthermore, it will be needed to strengthen collaboration and communication between stakeholders including the administration, social workers, health professionals and community leaders.
