RUTANA, October 9th (ABP) – Guardians of the sugar cane plantations of the Moso sugar company (SOSUMO) must wear uniforms without exception and provide themselves with the equipment they receive from the sugar company to which they belong “Ulinzi Kazi”.

These are the words of the governor of Rutana province, Mr. Olivier Nibitanga, during a meeting he held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, for the people of the Gihofi and Kabanga villages of the Bukemba commune which is home to SOSUMO.

The meeting took place at a time when in recent days cases of theft of bicycles from passengers have been recorded in the two villages bordering the sugar cane plantations of that company. He called on the people of the two villages to maintain peace and security, and promised that the police will carry out daily patrols in those areas recording cases of theft.

Governor Nibitanga took the opportunity to warn the people from those villages carrying out field work in the neighboring country, Tanzania, that the export of fertilizers obtained with State aid is prohibited. The same goes for the clandestine export of Brarudi drinks. Anyone caught in these practices will be punished in accordance with the law, he insisted.

To motorcyclists carrying out paid transport, Governor Nibitanga reminded them that the Highway Code only allows the holding of one passenger per tour. Those who violate this law will be punished. The sanction will also affect passengers who agree to take a motorcycle that already has another passenger, with the aim of eradicating this offense, he stressed.
