RUTANA, July 5th (ABP) – The vaccination of cattle against scrapie in the province of Rutana (south-east Burundi), which was due to start on Tuesday 3 July, has been delayed by one day due to a shortage of materials and products used in the campaign. According to the director of the provincial livestock office, Pierre Claver Bagorikunda, the delay was due to the late availability of fuel. Pierre Claver Bagorikunda, the delay was due to the late availability of fuel. The vaccination campaign for cattle over one year old is running smoothly at all vaccination sites in Rutana Province, Mr Bagorikunda said. During the vaccination campaign, farmers are in the habit of waiting until the last few days to bring their animals to the vaccination sites, which means that some targeted livestock are missing out on the vaccine, Mr Bagorikunda lamented. He therefore called on the authorities to sensitise the public on the importance of vaccinating livestock.

He urged farmers to vaccinate their livestock in the first few days of the campaign to ensure its success.
