BUJUMBURA July 5th (ABP) – The Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca, received on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Mrs. Mélanie Higgins, the United States Ambassador to Burundi, who came to bid farewell to him, at the end of his term.

In an interview given to the press, Mélanie Higgins expressed her heartfelt thanks to the government of Burundi for its commitment and the support she received as United States Ambassador to Burundi.

On President Ndayishimiye’s leadership, she said she has seen many reforms in Burundi, including the promotion of good governance, human rights, and macroeconomic reforms. She also pointed out that when all these reforms were launched, the United States was present.

To that end, Mélanie Higgins did not fail to point out that during her term, ties between the two countries were strengthened by supporting the government’s slogan “Turikumwe Twese Birashoboka” (together we can).

She continued to say that the United States has also discussed with Burundi the support it can provide to school canteen programs. The launch activities of that support project will be inaugurated in October by the First Lady of Burundi, according to Ambassador Higgins. This testifies that the relations between Burundi and the United States are solid, she underlined, while hoping that those ties of friendship between Burundi and the United States will continue with her successor.
