MOGADISHU July 4th (XINHUA) – African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) envoys to Somalia have commended Burundian peacekeepers for their efforts to stabilize the country.

Mohamed El-Amine Souef, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission for Somalia and Head of the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), and Anita Kiki Gbeho, Deputy Special Representative to the Mission of United Nations Assistance to Somalia, cited Burundi’s main contributions to peace and stability in Africa, particularly in Somalia and Central Africa.

According to Mr. El-Amine Souef, quoted in a statement issued on Sunday by ATMIS in the Somali capital Mogadishu, Burundi has greatly contributed to the ideal universal peace mainly through political solutions anchored on mediation and a constant commitment to peace and security.

“Burundi has never hesitated to invest in peace operations which represent for many people the only hope of finding lasting peace as in Somalia and the Central African Republic”, he noted.
