UNFPA donated 50 tablets to Central Census Bureau

BUJUMBURA April 17th  (ABP) – The Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Mr. Judicael Elidjé, presented, on Friday, April 14, 2023, a donation of 50 tablets to the Central Census Bureau (BCR ), responsible for conducting and carrying out the general population, housing, agriculture and livestock census (RGPPHAE).

Those tablets will make it possible to start field work related to the pilot mapping.

On that occasion, the resident representative of UNFPA, indicated that those tablets are only part of the constant efforts carried out by UNFPA since the beginning of the process of the general census of the population, the habitat, the Agriculture and Livestock (RGPHAE), a digital census that will allow Burundi to have data that will facilitate throughout the planning and decision-making process and will also allow all actors and development partners to contribute significantly to advancing the issue of data or statistics. He promised that UNFPA will always be ready to support the central census office.

The President of the BCR, Nicolas Ndayishimiye, said that the donation of these tablets comes at the right time and reflects UNFPA’s clear desire to support the BCR in the realization of the RGPHAE, especially since it does not has never ceased to support the activities organized within the framework of the current census.

According to him, the tablets will make it possible to start the field work for the phase of the pilot mapping, the preparations for which are clearly advanced and above all that they will also be used in the pre-test of the tools for collecting the counting data. He pointed out that UNICEF has also promised to lend the BCR 50 tablets in this same phase of pilot mapping. He took this opportunity to thank UNFPA for its multifaceted support for the BCR and asked it to mobilize other partners for the census process to be crowned with success.

The BCR President  promised that with the technical and financial support, the BCR will spare no effort to conduct and carry out the RGPHAE in accordance with international census standards, while guaranteeing quality assurance.
