BUJUMBURA March 7th (ABP) – The graduate school of the University of Burundi, through the Center for Incubation and Acceleration of the University of Burundi (CINAUB), launched on Monday March 6 a training program on the use of a Moodle platform for healthcare providers and executives from the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS.

In total, 70 nurses from the 35 pilot health centers and 29 managers from the central, intermediate and peripheral levels will benefit from that training. An e-learning training course for 10 trainers (5 doctors and 5 operating room nurses) on the referral system for surgical and obstetric emergencies took place from February 6 to 10, 2023

That training will cover access to the platform, registration and access to courses, the use of course teaching materials, namely lessons, homework, exercises, exams and communication between forum members.

According to the director of the graduate school of the University of Burundi, Professor Juma Shabani, the training has many advantages not only for healthcare providers but also for patients. Indeed, he said, this Moodle platform, which will be a real working tool, will be available all the time to contribute to building the capacity of healthcare providers in the care of patients and in decision-making for referrals.

With this training, he added, capacity building for healthcare providers can now be done online at a lower cost because physical presence with all the burdens it entails will no longer be necessary for building capacity of health care providers. CINAUB runs this training program with funding from the Belgian federal government development agency (Enabel), the Support Project for Burundian Organizations through Skills Building, PAORC through a grant agreement.

As a reminder, as part of its mission of community services, the graduate school of the University of Burundi launched on February 27, 2023 the training program for the certificate of advanced studies in interpersonal violence, 2022-2023 edition. The Certificate of Advanced Studies in “Interpersonal Violence in Burundi” is a joint program of the graduate school of the University of Burundi and the Romand University Center for Legal Medicine (CURML), the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) and the Vaud university hospital center (CHUV).
