KAYANZA February 20th (ABP) – The governor of Kayanza province (north), Rémy Cishahayo, brought together on Friday, February 17, 2023, communal administrators and heads of provincial and communal services to discuss the state of the life of the province and the characteristics of a good leader.

The institution of newly established village mediators has been subject to exchanges and deserves regular supervision, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The president of the High Court of Kayanza, Mr. Francois Niyonzima, indicated that the way in which village mediators carry out their work leaves something to be desired because, according to him, there is a violation of the law in the accomplishment of their task. For example, there are times when they settle disputes and enforce the judgments rendered without even reporting to the courts of residence.

From all the above, he calls for the involvement of the presidents of the courts of residence and the communal administrators to bring them to order.

Reacting to that concern, the governor of Kayanza said he was satisfied with the state of justice in the province because, he added, even the complaints of the people have significantly decreased.

However, he deplored the irregularities at the level of the Court of Appeal. In relation to the services of the village mediators, he asked the presidents of the courts of residence and the communal administrators to always be at the side of those mediators because it is a new institution which needs to be supervised, to help them perform well.
