MAKAMBA December 23rd (ABP) – The Senate of Burundi brought together, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, the members of the offices of the communal councils as well as the governors of the Makamba, Bururi and Rumonge provinces to discuss the principles of democratic governance at the local level, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The first vice president of the senate, Mrs. Denise Ndadaye, indicated that the exchanges focused on the obstacles that haunt the good functioning of the offices of the communal councils. She added that those exchanges will make it possible to amend the communal law to adapt it to the moment. She asked the members of the offices of the communal councils to recognize the importance of the decisions of the communal council, for the good management of the commune and good governance. It was pointed out that communal councils give the green light to the administrator with regard to the use of the communal budget.

On his part, the governor of Makamba, Mrs. Françoise Ngozirazana, indicated that those exchanges will allow the communes to increase the yield. The members of the offices of the communal councils will be able to follow the advice resulting from those meetings and work in common agreement to move the commune forward, she added.

The report will be sent to the competent authorities to allow the administrators to set up the program budget even if the budgets of the communes are voted in March.
