BUJUMBURA December 23rd (ABP) – A sum of 2,499,100,000 BIF and 16,320 bags of cement were collected on Thursday, December 22, 2022 during the fundraising operation for the construction of the Intwari stadium.

The leaders of Burundi, from the top to the grassroots, starting with the President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, his Vice President, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza, the Prime Minister, Gervais Ndirakobuca and all the ministers, but also the Secretary general of the ruling party Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo, the MPs, the managing directors of the banks, as well as the leaders of the financial and cooperative associations, agreed to meet at that underway construction site, for community work.

In his speech for the occasion, the Head of State indicated that the time for break is already over and that everyone is called upon to focus much more on development activities which will then restore the national image.

According to him, it is incomprehensible that an independent country like Burundi goes to borrow the pitch elsewhere for the international games, which causes the government to lose a lot of funds. To do this, he pointed out, both material and financial contributions of everyone are necessary, for the Intwari stadium to be erected in international standards.

The engineers who monitor the construction site estimate that regarding the progress of the work, that stadium could host the ceremonies marking the 2023 International Labor and Employment Day.

As for people who want to contribute to the construction of that stadium, a bank account is opened at BANCOBU at number 04526120103-52 and will subsequently be posted around that Intwari stadium in order to be recognized by the public.
