BURURI December 21st (ABP) – The National Committee of the “Ewe Burundi urambaye” reforestation project proceeded, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 on Muzenga hill, Kiririsi sub-hill, in Rutovu Commune, to the launch of the silvicultural year, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Those activities were honored with the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Burundi Defense Force, General Prime Niyongabo, the Inspector General of Police and other members of the National Committee of the Ewe Burundi urambaye reforestation project.

Some 15,000 eucalyptus plants have been grown on that mountain. General Prime Niyongabo thanked the provincial and communal administration of Rutovu for having mobilized many people for that activity. He made it known that this reforestation project is part of the logic of protecting the environment threatened by demographic growth. He asked the people of Rutovu commune and generally those of the whole province to fight against bush fires during the summer period and the wandering of cattle in the tree plantations.

He indicated that after the launching ceremonies, people are called upon to empty all the nurseries for three months to plant the trees on the empty spaces. After the tree growing work on that mountain, Prime Niyongabo headed to Rwego hill, Ruhuma mountain where in 2019, nearly 60 thousand trees were planted under the same project. He appreciated the afforestation which is evolving very positively and congratulated the people for having maintained those trees well.
