BUJUMBURA July 20th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye received, on Tuesday July 19, 2022, at the Ntare Rushatsi Palace, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Burundi, Mrs. Mélanie Higgins.

At the end of the audience, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Burundi told the press that she had come to thank the President of the Republic of Burundi for the decoration she received on July 1., on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Burundi. For her, that shows that the achievements of the United States in Burundi are appreciated positively.

The two personalities also discussed bilateral relations between Burundi and the United States where the President of the Republic of Burundi

presented to the ambassador his vision for the development of Burundi. Ms. Higgins reassured him that the United States will continue to be a development partner in Burundi to ensure sustainable development.

She did not forget to point out that this year, the United States has given approximately 88 million US dollars for development projects in Burundi. She also added that in February this year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs signed an agreement with the United States for 400 million Burundian francs for the next five years. For her, these gestures prove that the partnership between Burundi and the United States is deep and that it will continue.

The spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Alain Diomède Nzeyimana, meanwhile, indicated that the President of the Republic of Burundi expressed his thanks to the Ambassador of the United States of America in Burundi for his courage and his love. manifested through activities towards Burundi.

According to Mr. Nzeyimana, the Ambassador of the United States also showed his satisfaction with the ministries benefiting from the intervention of the United States, including the ministries having foreign affairs, the interior and national solidarity in their attributions, adding that different American companies will come to Burundi in favor of the fields of electricity and the development of Burundians in general.
