Formal opening of the Kayero campus of the “Lumière” University

RUTANA July 12th (ABP) – The Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. François Havyarimana proceeded on Friday, July 8, 2022, to the solemn opening of the new campus of the “Lumière” University on Musotera village, Kayero zone of Mpinga-Kayove commune, Rutana province. The Kayero campus of that university has a faculty, that of management and administration and two institutes, namely that of management and commerce, and the institute of entrepreneurship and management.

In his welcoming address, the governor of Rutana province, Mr. Olivier Nibitanga hailed the initiative and the work of the administration of the Lumière University which has brought fruits including the construction of such a campus which is beneficial not only for the people of the locality of Mpinga-Kayove but also for others having an interest in the various departments of the said campus.

The governor of Rutana province, Mr. Nibitanga, said that, given the difficulties related to housing and catering encountered by students from Mpinga-Kayove commune once in universities, who were only in towns, the construction of such a campus in that locality will allow them to study without having to leave their families. And this fact being so important, he thanked everyone who participated in the establishment of that campus.

Just like the permanent secretary of the Mpinga-Kayove commune, Mr. Jean Paul Gashatsi, the provincial governor invited the representatives of this university to introduce other modern faculties and institutes to leave the choice free to the winners of the study diplomas high school students with interest in this campus

In his speech of the day, Minister Havyarimana indicated that the establishment of university campuses inside the country is part of the National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2027, and that the construction of this campus constitutes a contribution to the development of the country. It is for this reason that he invited the heads of other universities operating in the cities of Burundi to follow this good example of the Lumière University which will help in a comfortable life for Burundians.

The Kayero campus being of great importance not only for the population of Rutana, Mr. Havyarimana expressed his wish for the development of this campus which, according to him, will only be possible through the responsibility and the cooperation of its leaders, the people and local administration.

Minister Havyarimana finally invited students, teachers and the local population to take care of these constructions as well as the desk benches inside so that they can last a long time, because the future academics of the locality will use them.

As for the rector of the Lumière University, Mr. Yves Ndayikunda, he wished to thank the administrative staff of the locality, including in particular the governor of Rutana province as well as the administrator of the Mpinga-Kayove commune, who supported the work of setting up this branch of the Lumière University.

He said that this university will always participate in the plans and development projects of higher education that the ministry in charge of education will take and invited everyone to take good care of these buildings which will be used by their children. siblings and their children in the years to come.

It should be noted that the Lumière University becomes the second to set up a campus in the province of Rutana after the University of the Great Lakes already present in Rutana commune.
