Hygiene, priority in the week dedicated to the protection of the environment in Mukaza commune

BUJUMBURA June 21st (ABP) – In order to raise awareness among the population of the urban commune of Mukaza on the importance of environmental protection, a week dedicated to environmental protection, health and the sanitation will start on Monday June 20, 2022, indicated the administrator of this urban commune, Mr. Rénovat Sindayihebura, during a press conference held on Sunday June 19, 2022, in Bujumbura.

Considering the fact that the people of the economic capital of Burundi did not respond well to the call of their leaders, bringing to the respect of the rules of hygiene, Mr. Sindayihebura mentioned the need for sensitization on this subject before proceed with the application of sanctions in accordance with the law.

According to him, although the majority of the population was able to respect these rules, that is to say 60 percent, there are 40 percent who are not yet in order concerning the respect of the said rules.

During that period, various actors will participate in the removal of waste such as used water and juice bottles, as well as in raising awareness among people in the neighborhoods of the urban commune of Mukaza on the subject of hygiene, a- he reported.

Among the latter, we can cite associations based on Christian beliefs, the consortium of political parties operating in this urban commune, and associations working in the hygiene sector in that locality.

Administrator Sindayihebura also indicated that collection places for materials used in this sector have been prepared in each area of ​​the urban commune. With this in mind, he appealed to the residents of the town, as well as to visitors, to obtain any material that can help in the hygiene sector, for those who can. He also wanted to inform and express his thanks to the companies selling their products in plastic bottles, namely Kinju and Aquavie, who provided vehicles that will help collect the used bottles for recycling.

Mr. Sindayihebura recalled that hygiene work will continue even after this week. He said that at the end of this week, an evaluation will be held to analyze the results of this campaign and plan for the second which will include students on vacation.
