Burundi is proud of the effective integration of the DRC into the EAC

BUJUMBURA December 23rd (ABP) – The Vice-President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza, represented, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Ntare House, the Head of State Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, at the 18th Virtual summit of Heads of State of the East African Community (EAC), under the theme “deepen integration, broaden cooperation”, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Two points were on the agenda, including the analysis of the report of the Cabinet meeting on the admission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the EAC and the amendment of the rule of the quorum of the summit of Heads of State of the EAC.

In that summit, the Heads of State received and considered the report of the Council on the DRC’s verification mission to join the EAC and ordered the Council to start and quickly conclude negotiations with the DRC for its admission. to the EAC and report back to the next summit.

That summit also examined the proposal to amend article 11 of the rules of procedure for the summit of Heads of State or government and instructed the secretariat to convene an extraordinary meeting of the sectoral council for legal and judicial affairs to deliberate and give his opinion on that proposal for the next summit.

In an interview with the media, the Vice-President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza, said that Burundi is proud of the effective integration of the DRC into the EAC, because, he added, the DRC shares a long border with Burundi and that would allow good trade between the two countries

Note that those Heads of State observed a minute of silence in honor of the late H.E Dr. John Pumps Joseph Magufuli, former President of the Republic                                                                  of Tanzania, who died on March 17, 2021, in Dar-Es Salaam and paid a heartfelt tribute to the former Tanzanian President for his commitment to the EAC integration process, infrastructure development and the direction of growth economic.
