BUJUMBURA November 30th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, along with his family, joined the Christians of the parish of Saint John the Baptist of Gihosha, Ntahangwa commune in the City of Bujumbura, in Sunday mass marking the start of Advent.

The Head of State took that opportunity to indicate that the period of the advent of the Catholic Church of that liturgical year C coincides with the period of the government of Burundi which is at work to sensitize the Burundian people to convert and have a heart of love that removes all forms of division. He urged Christians to let themselves be renewed by the Holy Spirit to build a new Burundi.

In his homily, the Deputy Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bujumbura, Mgr Gabriel Baregensabe, based himself on the holy scriptures from the book of Saint Luke, chapter 21, 25-36, invited Christians to stand up for their redemption draws near. That same word of God calls Christians to be on their guard, lest they sink into drinking and be carried away by the worries of life. He also urged Christians to stay awake by praying all the time for the strength to escape whatever may happen to them.

During that Eucharistic celebration, the priest read the contents of the letter from the Catholic bishops of Burundi released on 11/10/2021 as part of the preparations for the jubilee of 125 years of evangelization in Burundi. Through that letter, the bishops invite Christians to build their homes by following the good example of the holy family of Nazareth whose head was Saint Joseph, who did everything to protect his family even in exile and kept the secret even in difficult moments.

Families must, moreover, be considered as schools where parents teach their children all the lessons related to the word of God, underline the Catholic bishops of Burundi.
