GITEGA July 1st (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye, suspended in his functions the Director General (DG) of OTRACO (Common Transport Authority), Mr. Albert Maniratunga, for failing to comply with the instructions relating to the resumption of the issuance of the technical control card for vehicles in the agencies of the said office based in Bururi, Gitega and Ngozi provinces on time.

President Ndayishimiye reacted thus on Tuesday, June 29, during a visit he made to the OTRACO agency in Gitega (central Burundi), guided by the suspended director general. He was indignant at the loss of earnings that the technical control card seekers, coming from the interior of the country, continue to suffer following the ill will of the above-mentioned DG and GST (Global Society Technical), investor in the manufacture of said cards.

“On February 21, 2021, I gave you a two-month deadline for the effective restart of the activities of granting the technical control card in these agencies. But behold, we are at the end of June with nothing done,” the Head of State deplored. Thus, he ordered the Director General of Police to close the offices of OTRACO and to ensure that the suspended Director General does not enter.
