The country’s First Lady has received in audience the vice president of the WB in charge of East and Southern Africa

BUJUMBURA June 25th (ABP) – The First Lady of the country, Mrs. Angéline Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Thursday June 24, 2021, the vice president of the World Bank in charge of Eastern and Southern Africa Mr. Hafez Ghanem.

At the end of the audience, the vice president of the World Bank told the media that their discussions focused on the socio-economic development of Burundians. He mentioned the problem of malnutrition and the stunted growth of children.

According to Mr. Ghanem, the First Lady explained that Burundi has all the food necessary for good nutrition but that parents and canteen managers need to be taught how to ensure balanced meals for children. He said he will work together with the First Lady on that issue.

Mr. Ghanem also reported that they addressed the issue of empowerment of women, education of girls, access to medical care for women, mothers and children and also access to economic opportunities for the women.

He added that Mrs. Ndayishimiye explained how the Bonne Action Foundation Umugiraneza has worked to ensure access to economic empowerment for different women. “I’m honored to be working with the First Lady on this issue,” Ghanem continued to say.

Mrs. Angéline Ndayishimiye thanked the vice president of the World Bank in Eastern and Southern Africa for having thought of supporting the projects of the Bonne Action Foundation and the OPDAD of which she is Chairperson. She indicated that this visitor was accompanied by a nutrition expert with whom they will work in close collaboration in the school canteens project initiated by the First Lady of the country in order to feed the children with useful and complete meals.

Mrs. Ndayishimiye also pointed out that for the next conference of women leaders scheduled to discuss nutrition, he will be invited to support them as a nutrition expert.
