People need to learn how to prepare a balanced diet to combat malnutrition

CANKUZO, June 7th (ABP) – Mastering the preparation of a balanced meal is of great importance in the fight against malnutrition, declared the governor of Cankuzo province (east of Burundi), Boniface Banyiyezako, on 5 June.

Governor of Cankuzo province (east of Burundi), Mr Boniface Banyiyezako, at a meeting to assess the quarterly achievements of the Provincial Platform for Food Security and Nutrition (PPSAN) held on Tuesday 4 June 2024 at the provincial capital for members of the platform.

According to Governor Banyiyezako, a change of mentality is needed to succeed in the fight for development. He urged the population to follow and put into practice the advice and training provided by the Learning and nutritional rehabilitation homes (FARN), because, he stressed, children must be in good health.

The Governor of Cankuzo is delighted with the progress made in promoting agriculture that agricultural year compared to previous years. He took the opportunity to raise awareness among the entire population of the need to work in the fields, to practise household irrigation and to manage the harvest properly.

With a view to eradicating diseases linked to malnutrition in all households, Governor Banyiyezako demanded clean fields on the hills so that the harvests could be used in cooking demonstration sessions to achieve a balanced diet for the health of mothers and children within the FARN and for assistance to the most vulnerable.

At a time when the vagaries of the climate are destabilising the province’s development, Governor Banyiyezako Governor Banyiyezako recommended that the communes rehabilitate latrines destroyed by rain in various schools in order to protect the health of pupils.
