NGOZI, May 24th (ABP) – Young pig breeders in Ngozi province, supervised by PAEEJ; say they are satisfied with the activities carried out over the last two years.

According to the president of the Federation of Hillside Cooperatives of Young Pig Breeders, Mr. Claude Nyandwi, the step already taken is satisfactory.

Since the advent of PAEEJ, 1,560 young people from Ngozi province have come together to create 78 pig breeding cooperatives in all communes, he said. All those cooperatives received loans from PAEEJ and are ready to repay today.   Currently, they have 1300 adult pigs. To strengthen themselves further, the 78 cooperatives set up a federation whose headquarters is in the town of Ngozi. The federation employs 6 permanent employees and a daily workforce of between 20 and 40 workers. They set themselves the objective of producing and marketing concentrates to feed their animals and sell the surplus in neighboring provinces.

Mr. Nyandwi asks other young people to follow the model of young pig breeders to choose income-generating activities. Young people can create jobs and escape dependency and poverty if they agree to work in cooperatives, he added.
