The 2024 military championship has been officially launched

GITEGA, May 21st  (ABP) – The head of Burundi’s National Defence Force, General Prime Niyongabo, officially opened the 2024 military championship on Tuesday 21 May 2024. The ceremonies took place at the commando centre of the second military division camp in Gitega (in the centre of the country), a check on the site by ABP has revealed. That championship was organised by the FDNB under the theme: “Instruction and training in the Burundi National Defence Force, pillars of the professionalisation of that corps for the success of its missions”.

It brought together soldiers from various groups specialising in different Burundian army disciplines from all the country’s military divisions. The disciplines involved were obstacle course, rope course, 17 km race with military equipment, 8 km race, shooting and so on.

Brigadier General Télésphore Barandereka, in charge of instruction, training and operations within the FDNB, explained that that championship is organised once a year with a view to detecting new talent and strengthening the capacities of soldiers.

As for the head of the FDNB, General Prime Niyongabo, he said that holding that championship is a good opportunity for the FDNB to look inwards and see what level the soldiers have reached over the course of a year. It is also a good opportunity to strengthen the unity and morale of the military
