CANKUZO, May 24th (ABP) – One in four people bitten by a rabid dog, in Gisagara commune, Cankuzo province, has already died, indicated the doctor Director of the Cankuzo health district, Dr. Sylvestre Kansuraheba, during a social meeting. -security of the heads of provincial services, led Tuesday, May 21, 2024 by the governor of that province, Mr. Boniface Banyiyezako, learned the ABP on site.

Those 4 people bitten by a single dog are all from Bunyerere village, Gisagara commune as indicated by Dr. Kansuraheba.

At the time when one of them has already died from rabies, Dr. Kansuraheba worries that the other three could be rabies and contaminate the others at any moment since they have not been vaccinated following the shortage of vaccines which is currently observed.

At the administration level, the presence of stray dogs, including those coming from Tanzania, is confirmed.

Governor Banyiyezako deplores the behavior of his leaders who are ignorant, while we continue to call on them to vaccinate all the dogs and tie them up inside their households or, failing that, kill them.

From now on, he said, each stray dog will be identified so that its owner is known, so that it can be punished in accordance with the law.

He took the opportunity to call on communal administrators to look for people bitten by dogs in order to examine them at the hospital, to be able to take measures to prevent any form of contamination due to the lack of medication.
