The Head of State paid a visit to the Musasa regional warehouse

NGOZI, May 21st (ABP) – On Friday 17 May, Burundi’s Head of State, Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye, visited the storage shed located in Masanganzira in the Musasa zone of the Kiremba commune, in Ngozi province (northern Burundi), a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The shed housed a maize harvest estimated at over 1009 tonnes from the provinces of Ngozi, Kayanza and Kirundo, which make up the new administrative province of Butanyerera.

The visit was made after the one to Kirundo.  During the A 2024 growing season, Ngozi province saw its highest ever maize production.

According to agriculture and livestock officials in Ngozi, the better maize harvest was due to a number of factors.

Firstly, farmers’ understanding of the Burundian government’s new approach to agricultural intensification. intensification. This approach emphasises to plough at the same time, sow the same variety, smoke, weed, disinfect and harvest at the same time. This has the advantage of reducing crop diseases, pests and thieves. Lastly, the highly productive variety grown, as well as the climatic conditions, have been very favourable to maize growing, not forgetting the action of the cooperatives, which have cultivated vast tracts of maize.
