CIBITOKE, April 9th (ABP) – The Minister of Justice, Domine Banyankimbona, accompanied by her advisors, made a working visit, Tuesday April 2, 2024, to the headquarters of Cibitoke province, to meet litigants.

The objective of that visit was to listen to their grievances and requests for review of judgments, addressed to his ministry.

In his remarks, the Minister of Justice declared that to align with the national vision 2040-2060, and claim the rule of law, in his ministry there must be a change in behaviour among certain corrupt judges and magistrates. She called on court officials to take the lead, to dissociate themselves from their staff, who ignore the recommendation of the Head of State, asking them that the year 2024 be characterized by justice. She said that a small number of judges and magistrates are only corrupt, and that they must be identified so that they do not continue to tarnish the image of justice.

To achieve that, the Minister of Justice urged judges and magistrates to be aware of their mission. As it was the 2nd day after Easter, she advised them to refer to God, the supreme judge, in their work.

The governor of Cibitoke province, Carême Bizoza, thanked the Minister of Justice who travelled to save long distances and resources for his population, who should go to Bujumbura, in search of answers to their requests for revisions of judgments.

He also pointed out that security is relatively good, but that cases of popular justice, following accusations of witchcraft, often take human lives in his province. He also did not forget to mention that there are cases pending before the courts.

As for the litigants, they expressed their satisfaction for the organization of that type of raids, and asked that that practice continue.
