GITEGA March 28th (ABP) – The sanctuary of the sacred drums of Gishora housed in Giheta commune, Gitega province (center of the country), requires urgent rehabilitation in order to renew its splendor. That is the plea expressed by Mr. Oscar Nshimirimana, responsible for the drummers of the said sanctuary, addressed to the ministry in charge of culture.

The royal thatched huts are in a very dilapidated state, as are their enclosures, lamented Mr. Nshimirimana at the ABP microphone. For further clarification, he said, visitors deplore the non-existence of hotel infrastructure to offer shelter, catering and leisure. Addressing those concerns could contribute to increasing the current number of tourists, estimated at over 100 people per month.

Alongside the exhibition of drummers highly appreciated by tourists, the sanctuary houses sacred drums over a hundred years old and a royal court equipped with boxes for different uses as well as the equipment within them which the king used or the queen either for sleeping and adornment or for protection.
