Closing of the ordinary parliamentary session of December 2023

GITEGA March 4th (ABP) – The analysis and adoption of 8 bills, the approval of the nominations of members of the independent national electoral commission and oral questions to 7 ministers, those are the points that were discussed by the senators during the session of Thursday February 29, 2024. It was on the occasion of the closing of the ordinary parliamentary session of December 2023.

Those points were presented by the president of the senate, Mr. Emmanuel Sinzohagera, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Among the bills analysed is that revising Law No1/16 of June 28, 2023 setting the general state budget for the 2023-2024 financial year.

Mr. Sinzohagera also indicated that the Burundian Senate has also prepared a strategic plan of activities planned from the year 2023 until 2027, adding that that plan was presented to Burundi’s technical and financial partners on the 27th. February 2024. The president of the senate also noted the recent descents carried out by members of the senate office inside the country gave the members of the office the opportunity to speak with the population and therefore, their provide advice. The safeguarding of peace and security, the education of children, attendance at work, the limitation of births, the conservation of harvests, the protection of the environment, the regrouping in associations or cooperatives, the fight against corruption and the payment of taxes were on the menu of the senators’ meetings with the population.

Speaking during the parliamentary recess period, Mr. Sinzohagera said that the senators will be with the population by participating in community development work. They will also closely monitor the concerns of the population, monitor the implementation of laws passed and raise awareness among the population on increasing production and preserving peace.
