BUJUMBURA, January 19th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, took the plane in the evening of Wednesday January 18, 2024 to the Republic of Uganda, to take part in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement scheduled to take place in Kampala from January 19 to 20, 2024.

The office responsible for information, communication and spokespersonship of the President of the Republic specified, through press release No. 002/2024, that the President of the Republic of Burundi will also take part in the inauguration ceremonies of the recently re-elected President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mr. Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, scheduled for January 20, 2024 in Kinshasa.

The Head of State was accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, as specified in the said press release.

Note that the Non-Aligned Movement was founded in 1961. It is the second largest group of countries after the United Nations. It has 120 representatives. Most States of the African continent are its members. The movement includes 120 countries such as 53 of Africa, 39 of Asia, 26 of Latin America and the Caribbean and two countries of Europe.

The movement of non-aligned countries therefore brings together the States which did not want to engage in the logic of confrontation between East and West but on the contrary, in promoting the real independence of the countries of the South within the framework of decolonization.
