BUJUMBURA, January 4th (ABP) – The secretary general of the CNDD-FDD party, Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo, hosted a press conference on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, to communicate the results of the said party’s achievements over the past year and the projects planned for the year 2024, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Mr. Ndikuriyo said that the past year was marked by many activities. He cited the searches carried out in different areas of the country with the aim of discussing with members of the CNDD-FDD party the importance of building peace and tightening security.

During those searches, members of the party were encouraged to develop by teaming up in cooperatives. He added that the young Imbonerakure were trained on patriotism and social cohesion.

To support the vision of the President of the Republic of Burundi of an emerging country in 2040 and developed one in 2060, the secretary general of the ruling party indicated that the party trained, during the year 2023, 80 thousand young Imbonerakure to develop and love the country, while explaining to them that they will be the leaders for 2040 and 2060.

Mr. Ndikuriyo also underlined that members of the CNDD-FDD party have grown 31 million trees in nurseries which will be planted throughout the country in the year 2024. Among these trees, he pointed out, are avocado trees and eucalyptus trees. This reforestation activity, once carried out, will help reduce erosion to provide a good climate, he stressed.

Regarding the prospects for the current year, the secretary general of the CNDD-FDD party recalled that the party had drawn up a project entitled “Turerere uburundi neza”, with the objective of teaching the children of Burundi songs that make them love the country. This project will also help all stakeholders discuss procedures that can improve teaching conditions in basic and post-basic schools. He indicated, among other things, the distribution of books to those schools and the construction of basic and post-basic schools in all the villages of the country, so that pupils can study in good conditions.

In the sector of health, he specified that they will raise awareness among all stakeholders to practice hygiene throughout the country, especially in hospitals, with a view to reducing dirty-hand diseases.

Speaking about the economy, Mr. Ndikuriyo invited the Burundian population to cultivate tea, coffee, cotton and avocado, noting that those products will help earn foreign exchange in the country and reduce poverty.

According to him, avocados are very profitable and they are popular in the international market.

During question session, journalists asked him what the ruling party plans to restore good relations between Burundi and Rwanda. The secretary general of the ruling party responded that there had been talks, but security-threatening indicators are still observed. He promised that the CNDD-FDD party will continue dialogue with the ruling party of the Republic of Rwanda to resolve the problem.

To cope with the high cost of living observed in Burundi, Mr. Ndikuriyo called on the entire population, especially civil servants, not to keep the salary alone, but to accompany the work with other income-generating activities, notably agriculture and livestock. This will increase agricultural production and avoid going to the market all the time, and will allow them to have money alongside their salary, he added.

On that occasion, the secretary general of the CNDD-FDD party took the opportunity to condemn the deadly attack which resulted in the loss of lives among civilians at Gatumba. He called on the entire Burundian population to keep peace and tighten security so that they generally reign throughout the country.
