On that occasion, the representative of the coalition of associations fighting AIDS, Mr. Julien Mugemancuro indicated that 98% of HIV-positive adults are under ARV treatment.

He took the opportunity to thank the government which is fighting body and soul to ensure the well-being of HIV-positive people because all health structures in Kirundo province, whether hospitals or health centers, have the drugs antiretrovirals.

As for the governor of Kirundo province, Police Colonel Victor Segasago, he said that Kirundo province records around 20 new HIV-positive people every month, and that most of them are young people. He also pointed out that the unwanted pregnancies recorded in schools in that province indicate that some may be among those infected with HIV.
