BUJUMBURA October 24th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye received in audience, Saturday October 21, 2023, the president of the International Amateur Football Federation (FIFA), Mr. Gianni Infantino, in visit to Burundi.
According to the spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Mrs. Rosine Guilène Gatoni, Mr. Infantino promised the President of the Republic that FIFA is committed to investing in major sports projects. FIFA has promised to support the construction project of the Intwari stadium, which is currently under construction, so that it complies with international standards.
The two authorities also discussed FIFA’s contribution in the field of education and training of young people. In that regard, Mr. Infantino announced that FIFA will support the Government in sporting activities through the “Football for Schools” project, which he inaugurated the same day at the Urunani stadium in Buganda in Cibitoke. That is where he indicated that Burundi is the 100th country that FIFA will support as part of that project.
According to the spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Mr. Infantino also promised that FIFA will make its contribution to the establishment of football academies to strengthen the capacities of footballers and sports educators. After that audience, the President of the Republic and the President of FIFA then visited the site of the Intwari stadium under construction.
