CANKUZO August 17th (ABP) – The administrative authorities are concerned about the number of street children, which is increasing day by day and could be a source of insecurity, a check by ABP got informed during a meeting of security that the governor of Cankuzo, Mr. Boniface Banyiyezako, held, on Monday, August 14, 2023, in Mishiha commune, for communal administrators and heads of decentralized services.

Cases of street children are recorded at both provincial and communal levels, according to reports from the provincial directorate of family and social development.

According to the deputy head of that directorate, Mr. Anatole Karabumba, these cases, even small children, are constantly increasing in the provincial headquarters, four children under the age of 10 having recently been found. That directorate announced, during the meeting, that 16 volunteer foster families for those children have already been chosen at the provincial level and one for each commune, with sufficient training. But this management deplored that some children withdrawn from the street, instead of taking advantage of that supervision, they steal and leave illegally. Others hide their true identities, making it difficult to find their real families.

These cases worry the administrative authorities who fear that those children can be a source of insecurity. Indeed, the governor of that province called on the participants to intervene, by informing the administration of each known case, for the reintegration of those children into their respective families.
