BUJUMBURA June 16th (ABP) – The Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Mr. Alain Tribert Mutabazi, proceeded on Thursday, June 15, 2023, to the presentation of certificates to 28 senior officers from the superior school of command and staff (ESCEM), of the 7th promotion after a year of training, a check in the site by ABP has revealed.
In his speech, the minister thanked the ESCEM command for the commendable work it is doing through that noble mission of training senior officers, executives and leaders that the command needs. He also praised the National Defense Foundation of Burundi (FNDB) which spares no effort in supporting ESCEM in order to reach such an appreciable level.
Mr. Mutabazi also stressed that this ceremony shows the importance of the course and the importance that the national defense force of Burundi attaches to training. The Minister did not fail to thank the partner countries members of the East African community, particularly those which sent officers to ESCEM, namely the governments of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda, for their contribution to program exchange. He pointed out that it is this type of collaboration between the countries that has forged a successful program of exchange of student officers and management personnel in the spirit of sub-regional promotion and regional integration among the countries.
Minister Mutabazi recalled that those officers who benefited from the training had an opportunity to understand more global defense strategies and finally to face complex regional and international security problems. These include transnational crimes such as terrorism, piracy and cyber threats, not to mention the challenges of environmental degradation and climate change which have become more difficult to address.
He also recalled that the command of the national defense force of Burundi, supported by the government of Burundi, has always worked to meet the material and financial needs that ESCEM needed to achieve its goals.
Minister Mutabazi also congratulated the winners of the 7th promotion for the team spirit of mutual help and cooperation that characterized them. Thus, he called on them to make the most of the knowledge acquired during the training and invited them to be good ambassadors wherever they go to carry out their missions.
