BUBANZA June 5th (ABP) – Journalists are called upon to always work in compliance with the rules of the profession. This was said on Friday June 2 in the workshop which was organized at the headquarters of the Bubanza province (north-west of Burundi) by the Ministry responsible for the Media.

That workshop was organized for journalists working in the western region. It focused on how the journalist should behave and work to establish peace in Burundi. In his presentation, expert Jacques Bukuru indicated that the media are a double-edged sword, therefore media professionals must respect the attributes of a good journalist, namely accuracy, impartiality and responsibility. He invites those in charge of media outlets to teach the rules of the trade to their staff so that they deliver constructive information.

Nevertheless, the participants mentioned difficulties in accessing information because of certain administrative officials and other holders of information, who have not yet understood the importance of the media in society and well-being of the population, a check by ABP revealed.

As for the Director of Communication at the Ministry in charge of the Media, Oscar Nzohabonayo, he asked for the involvement of everyone in the proper functioning of the media. Note that more than 240 media are already operational on Burundian soil.
