Adoption of the draft ratification of a cooperation agreement, in the technological and industrial field, between the government of the Republic of Burundi and the government of the Republic of Tunisia

BUJUMBURA April 26th (ABP) – The First Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Sabine Ntakirutimana, chaired a plenary session on Monday, April 24, 2023, to analyze the cooperation agreement in the sector of technological development and industrial, between the government of the Republic of Burundi and the government of the Republic of Tunisia, signed on November 20, 2022, in Djerba, Tunisia.

During his presentation, the Minister of Infrastructure, Equipment and Social Housing, Mr. Dieudonné Dukundane, who had represented the government, recalled that on the sidelines of the 18th Francophonie Summit held on November 20, 2022, in Djerba, Tunisia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi, Ambassador Albert Shingiro signed with his counterpart Mr. Othman Jerandi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians at the of the Republic of Tunisia, a cooperation agreement consisting of 9 articles in the field of technological and industrial development.

According to him, the signing of this agreement took place the day after a meeting organized between the Tunisian President, Kaïs Saïed and his counterpart, Evariste Ndayishimiye. The main objective set by the two parties is to make a strong contribution to giving new impetus to relations between the two countries by establishing exemplary partnerships in the technological and industrial fields.

For Burundi, this agreement strengthens and diversifies its bilateral cooperation with Tunisia, for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples. It will contribute to the search for investment opportunities with higher levels of profitability. As Burundi wishes to acquire modern industries, it is necessary to establish new sustainable partnerships in the technological and industrial field to contribute more and more to economic growth and industrial competitiveness. Finally, industrial activities constitute a powerful response to the great needs of today and tomorrow and create many localized jobs with various qualifications.

The MPs asked the Minister to closely monitor the implementation of this agreement so that it is win-win for both parties. At a time when acts of xenophobia are being noticed in Tunisia, the government of Burundi was also called upon to monitor how Burundian students who will go to Tunisia to strengthen their capacities in various fields will be treated, the deputies added. After analysis and debate, the deputies unanimously adopted that bill.
