BUJUMBURA April 4th (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, joined on Sunday, April 2, 2023, the faithful of the Catholic Church of Saint Jean Paul Parish of Ngagara, in the urban commune of Ntahangwa, in the celebration of Palm Sunday, a check by ABP revealed.

After having blessed the palms, all the Christians proceeded to the procession which led them into the church where they followed the holy scriptures of the day centered essentially on the suffering that Redeemer Jesus Christ endured to save the people of God. The preacher of the day, Father Pascal Barampiga, centered his teaching on the word of God drawn from the Book by Isaiah 50:4-7, and Paul’s letter to the Philippians 2:6-11. Father Barampiga mainly recalled that the Palm Sunday prepares the coming moment of the resurrection of Jesus Christ which will be celebrated on Sunday April 9, 2023. He again invited all Christians to enter Holy Week with a humble heart for the paschal mystery to be for them a moment of meeting the dead and risen Jesus, and, at the end, to be a witness to the truth.

He recommended that they accompany Jesus in these days of Lent trying to fight evil to be forgiven and to tell the truth. He also advised the women present in that prayer to tell the truth to their husbands like the wife of Judah.

He thanked the Head of State for participating in that prayer, and for his support for the Easter retreat which closed on Sunday through the military and police chaplaincies.
