NGOZI April 4th (ABP) – Once in different swamps of Ngozi province, one witnesses the greenery of rice fields.

In the Nyamuswaga swamp straddling the communes of Kiremba, Tangara and Gashikanwa, there are very green fields over more than 1000 hectares. The same landscape is observed in the Nyacijima swamp which separates the Ngozi and Gashikanwa communes over an area of more than 400 hectares. The rice farmers met in the two marshes speak the same language: “We are really delighted with the state of our rice fields”.

The harvest is obviously very promising, underlined Mrs. Rehema met at Nyacijima II.

In that marsh, a good area is occupied by a variety granted by the provincial office of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (BPEAE) to serve as pilot fields.

The director of BPEAE Ngozi, Mr. Émile Kubwimana, is also satisfied. However, he deplores the delay in the weeding of the fields: “We must quickly remove the predatory weeds. If it is delayed, there will be an impact on production,” Mr. Kubwimana insisted.

For his part, Ngozi province governor Emmanuel Ntaconsanze is categorical: a period of one week is granted to rice farmers who are still late to complete the activity. Otherwise, the marshes remaining State property, the non-weeded rice fields will be granted to the cooperatives for better maintenance.

He urges the rice farmers to finish the weeding quickly because, this week, the census of the owners of the fields which are not well manured is planned to grant them urea.
