NGOZI April 5th (ABP) – The Burundian ombudsman, Aimée Laurentine Kanyana, visited on Monday April 4, 2023 the women’s cooperative of Nyanza, in the Mugomera zone, Ngozi commune and province, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

There, huge fields of maize and rice are installed on a former property of the Provincial Office of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock which had remained, until 2022, poorly and little exploited. That association cultivated a field of 14 hectares of rice there and that of 8 hectares of maize belong to 1000 women including the Burundian ombudsman.

In an interview with the press, Mrs. Kanyana was delighted with the activity of that cooperative. “These are very productive fields and which will allow them to meet their food needs and have a surplus for the market”. According to her, those are “committed women who have already understood that development concerns everyone, including women”. The cooperative plans to harvest their maize field next Saturday.

The Ombudsman was accompanied by members of the CECM Microfinance Management, who offered those women training in savings and financing of rural micro-projects. That cooperative intends to extend its fields on the remaining area of that property.
