BUJUMBURA March 31st (ABP) – The torrential rain that fell in Bujumbura on the night of Tuesday March 28, 2023 did a lot of damage in certain districts of the Kanyosha Zone, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In the Musama district, the damage was not numerous, but a few households were flooded and material equipment, including mattresses, clothes and cushions, was damaged. Some gutters were blocked; the people are at work for the unblocking.

The damage is significant in the Busoro neighborhoods where even houses have been swept away, others flooded and others are on the verge of collapse, following the Gacanjishi River which deviated from its bed following heavy rains and lack of drains. The victims who spoke to the ABP worry that the situation could happen again at any time given that we are in a rainy period. Those residents are living in total panic and crying out for help and asking for help as all of their property has been taken away. “Our children are in the exam period and they are not revising well because their notebooks have been wet,” they worry. That is how they ask for help with school materials for students, kitchen utensils, blankets and many other basic necessities while waiting for the government to determine the fate of this river because, this is the third time this situation has happened again.
