BUJUMBURA March 25th (ABP) – The permanent executive secretariat of the multisectoral food security and nutrition platform (SEP/PMSAN) in collaboration with the geomatics centralization office, and the national institute of statistics of Burundi (INSBU) on financing of the FAO, organized on Thursday, March 23, 2023, in Bujumbura, a meeting to officially launch the process of updating the mapping of stakeholders and interventions in food security and nutrition in Burundi.

The meeting attendees have included senior officials and executives of public institutions, representatives of the United Nations system agencies, representatives of international organizations, representatives of provincial governors, representatives of ministries and others.

In his opening address, the socio-cultural adviser to the Prime Minister, Dr Arcade Hatungimana, first recalled that the first mapping was carried out in 2017 and had provided a global vision of who does what, how and where, in terms of nutrition and food security in Burundi. It provided information on the situation of interventions and stakeholders in nutrition throughout the territory of Burundi for the year 2017. According to him, the mapping was carried out thanks to information collected by a team of technicians from the government, working in collaboration with an international consultant and benefiting from the technical and financial support of the Government of Burundi’s partners, including UNICEF and the WFP.

Dr. Hatungimana specified that after more than 5 years new stakeholders have appeared and no doubt also new nutritional approaches have been developed. It is therefore necessary to have an updated map, always providing information on the interventions and stakeholders in nutrition and food security in Burundi, while taking into account the evolution of the national coverage of interventions and stakeholders, and the budget invested in implementation of interventions.

According to him, the objective of that launch of a new mapping is to mobilize all the stakeholders to contribute to it in an effective way.
