BUJUMBURA March 3rd (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, honored with his presence the ceremonies organized by the Parliament for the 14th edition of the prayer lunch. The celebration was marked by the solemn opening of the building of the national assembly: International conference room “Agateka Hall”.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, in his speech, thanked the President of the Republic who contributed to the construction of that building.

Mrs. Denise Nkurunziza, who provided the teaching of the day, focused on the theme “Be the good servants of God”, an interpellation made to the leaders of the country”

She said that a ruler who practices this cannot be corrupted or anger his constituents. She let it be known that God does not like injustice. She called on everyone to fulfill their duties, to have a good heart, to have the fear of God.

In his speech for the occasion, the President of the Republic, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, called on Burundians to safeguard their culture and avoid bad behavior. In that regard, he castigated gay or lesbian behavior as well as abortion, behaviors that do not fit with Burundian tradition, a source of curse. “Burundi has known God for generations,” said the president, calling on Burundians to keep that cultural heritage.

President Ndayishimiye returned to the theme that calls on leaders to behave as good servants of God. His observation is that unfortunately some leaders do not practice this virtue. For him, the day the leaders will rise as one, the country will experience growth. The country has many assets but without commitment nothing is possible, he said. Mr. Ndayishimiye indicated that he notices certain leaders who practice autocracy, trust only those of their ethnic groups of their region and political affiliation. That behavior is detrimental to the development of the country. Those who try to do their best are not considered, he deplored. Hence, a profound change is needed, according to the President of the Republic.

He provided pieces of advice to the leaders. Thus, he called on them to consider themselves as servants of the people of Burundi. The Burundian leader is called upon to banish tribalism in all its forms, to invest in concrete actions that encourage the entire population to go about work, by taking the lead, to practice good governance in their respective positions. For the President of the Republic, the concept of putting the right man in the right place must be the concern of any leader so that the development machine is reaped.

The Speaker of the National Assembly offered a certificate of honor to the President of the Republic for his support for the construction of the National Assembly building: “Agateka Hall”. The ceremonies continued with the sharing of a drink for the inauguration of that building.
