The President of the Republic has been welcomed in a festive atmosphere

BUJUMBURA February 21st (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, returned on Monday, February 20, 2023 from Ethiopia, where he had participated in the 36th Conference of the African Union Heads of State and Government.

Upon his arrival at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, he was warmly welcomed, in a festive atmosphere, by a large number of people made up of a majority of young people, who came from all over the country to express their support for him following his appointment as Leader of the AU for the promotion of Youth, Peace and Security Agenda in Africa.

In an interview with the press, the Burundian Head of State expressed his feeling of satisfaction following the appointment of Burundi to the third vice presidency of the AU. For him, it is an honor granted by God to the people of Burundi, hence he calls on the latter to bear witness to their responsibility through hard work aimed at promoting a beautiful image of the country.

President Ndayishimiye also indicated that on the sidelines of that Summit, he took the opportunity to meet, within the framework of bilateral relations, with various authorities, in this case the Ethiopian Prime Minister, the United Nations Secretary General, the Somali Head of State, the Representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Representative of the World Bank.

The conclusion of the Head of State was much more focused on a strong appeal to the people of Burundi: “I made a strong appeal to all Burundians to assert themselves and show the whole world that they are capable”.

Leaving the airport, the atmosphere was unprecedented. Drummers and dance groups added joy to a large crowd of people gathered around the road. From about 100 to 200m the Head of State and his Better Half walked on foot to greet and dialogue with the people. The same scene was repeated at the Chanic roundabout, the United Nations roundabout, the Gare du Nord and the nunciature.

Some young people indicated that they are satisfied with the appointment of the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye to the post of Third Vice President of the African Union and Leader in Youth Projects. “We have come to congratulate the President of the Republic of Burundi for the honor he has brought to the country”, declared Dr. Thierry Ingabire, President of the National Youth Council (CNJ). He indicated that it is an asset for the country in general and for all young people in particular.
