GITEGA February 14th (ABP) – Burundi ombudsman Aimée Laurentine Kanyana announced the imminence of the installation of the institution under her responsibility in Gitega, the political capital of the country (center). It is for the institution to be closer to the people that it is called upon to serve better, she explained.

Ombudsman Kanyana made that revelation in the premises of the branch of the said institution of Gitega where she carried out, last week, a working mission to inquire about the grievances of the people.

To the press, Mrs. Kanyana pointed out that there are very few grievances following the recent trips that members of the government have organized to talk to the people throughout the country. To corroborate his remarks, the Burundian ombudsman indicated that the reports at her disposal, after the said trips by members of the government, reveals 35 files under treatment in the province of Mwaro, five files in each of the provinces of Muramvya and Karusi and one file in each of the Cankuzo and Ruyigi provinces. She thanked Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye for the approach he has adopted to mobilize his government to be closer to the population.

In addition, the Burundian ombudsman indicated that grievances that do not fall within the jurisdiction of the institution are referred to the competent services.
